3D Printing

3D printing is a way of making products in layers. It has been around since the 80’s. Today, 3D printing is being used to make organs, objects, and other things. The printer can use human cells, plastic or other materials instead of ink. I believe this technology would be great to use in the classroom. Instead of having a discussion on insects, the teacher may be able to print a 3d model of an insect. Furthermore, I believe a 3d printer will provide concrete objects for ELL learners. I chose this technology because I saw a 3D printer at UNT and I wanted to learn more about it. My reaction to this technology is that this technology is very exciting! The pros to this technology is that it is very precise, can use many materials to build something, and it is accessible for at home use. The cons are that you may not be able to build something huge, you may have to learn advanced software, and you may not be able to build something that uses different types of materials on the inside of a particular product. Do you think Asia has a more sophisticated version of a 3D printer?

  1. Asia might have a more sophisticated printer but I think we will get there. 3D printers are revolutionizing the way we see medical care. Scottish Rite Hospital for Children uses theirs to create prosthetic limbs for their patients. Super Exciting!!!

  2. We have 3D painting ice-cream in my city. They just use 3D printer ( I don't know if it's a special one) to make ice-cream what has transformers or some shapes. In education, I think 3D printing can make students be interested in the subject. That's inportant for learning.

  3. My uses 3D printing in STEAM - the new middle school in Burleson. He loves that piece of technology. They haven't actually "made" anything out of it yet, right now they are just learning about it and how to use it. I'm excited for the day when he is able to come home and tell me he used it. I think it is great that they are introducing this type of technology to middle school students.
